GLOBAL ECONOMY Asian shares fell on Wednesday, taking their cues from Wall Street with investor enthusiasm toward U.S. tax changes ebbing as the long-awaited reform bill wound its way through Congress, while higher U.S. Treasury yields underpinned the dollar.

WORLD OIL PRICES Oil prices inched up on Wednesday, supported by expectations of a fall in U.S. crude inventories and by the ongoing outage of the North Sea Forties pipeline system.

SOUTH AFRICA ECONOMY South African banking stocks rallied on Tuesday, buoyed by optimism that the newly elected leader of the ruling African National Congress will push through policies aimed at putting the economy on a stronger footing.

NIGERIA ECONOMY Benin’s telecommunications regulator has withdrawn the operating licence of Nigerian mobile telecoms company Globacom’s local unit in a dispute over new terms, according to a document seen on Tuesday.

KENYAN ECONOMY The Kenyan shilling was stable against the dollar on Tuesday and was seen trading in a tight range, supported by inflows from non-governmental organizations, traders said.

UGANDA ECONOMY Uganda’s parliament abruptly adjourned a debate on Tuesday over extending President Yoweri Museveni’s decades in power after a lawmaker said soldiers had entered the building and members of parliament scuffled with police.
