Enterprise Television – CIBN Holds Annual Banking Conference

The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) is set to hold the 11th edition of its Annual Banking and Finance Conference next month. The conference with the theme: “MSMEs: The Game Changer for Economic Growth and Development,” is slated to hold between September 11 and 12, 2018, in Abuja.

The programme is the flagship event of the institute hosted annually to provide a platform for all stakeholders in the banking and finance industry including policymakers, regulators, operators, and clients in the financial services sector, to share experiences and exchange ideas on contemporary issues affecting the sector and the economy as a whole.

Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, at the weekend, President/Chairman of Council, CIBN, Dr Uche Olowu, said the event was expected to attract over 500 professionals comprising industry executives, millennials from the banking and finance institutions, players in the MSMEs and the academic community.

Olowu who was represented by the second Vice President of the institute, Mr. Bayo Olugbemi, explained that the choice of the theme of the conference was predicated on the need to generate new ideas, innovation and strategies to address the funding gaps for MSMEs towards engendering economic growth and development in the country. He said Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, would declare the event open while the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele would deliver a keynote address on the opening ceremony.

Olowu said: “The conference will feature a keynote address, goodwill messages, paper presentations, and panel discussions, all focused on how best to leverage the MSMEs as a key driver for Nigeria’s economic growth and development.” The sub-themes to be discussed at the conference are: MSME Finance Gap: The Critical Role of Micro-Funding; Understanding Emerging Disruptions in Technology and its Impact on MSME Growth; Harnessing the Value Potentials at MSME in Income and Empowerment Generation; and MSMEs as an Integral Part of the Economic Growth and Recovery Plan.”
