Buhari Marginalizing Half of Nigeria’s Population- NIM
Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari is marginalizing about half of the country’s population, by his failure to appoint a significant number of women into his cabinet, the Nigerian Institute of Management has said.
According to the Nigerian Institute of Management, women are consistently under-represented in senior management and decision-making positions in both the private and public sectors of the Nigerian economy.
The President and Chairman of Council, Nigerian Institute of Management, Prof Olukunle Iyanda, stated that more women were appointed into the cabinet of former President Goodluck Jonathan than in the current cabinet of Buhari.
He said the percentage of women in leadership positions in the various industrial sectors was similarly low, varying from a high of 19.66 per cent in the telecommunications industry to a low of 12.2 per cent in the energy sector.
The Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Yetunde Onanuga, said the current reforms in the socio-political arena could only be sustained and improved upon if women were given a level playing ground along with their male counterparts.
