Nigeria’s Industry, Trade and Investment Minister, Dr Okechukwu Enelamah, has been elected Vice-Chairperson (Africa) for the 11th World Trade Organisation (WTO) Ministerial Conference. Enelamah’s election was decided at the WTO General Council meeting in Geneva on July 26. The Ministerial Conference is scheduled to hold from 10th to 13th December 2017.”
WTO members had elected two others: Mr Todd McClay, Minister of Trade (New Zealand); and Mr Edward Yau, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Hong Kong, China) to also serve as Vice Chairs for the WTO’s 11th Ministerial Conference (MC11) in Buenos Aires.
The General Council had agreed to elect Minister Susana Malcorra of Argentina since May to chair the Conference. Enelamah’s election is in recognition of Nigeria’s strategic role at the WTO and contributions on global trade policies.
